We took a fun family trip to New Orleans for Thanksgiving this year to visit my brother and his family. For only living 3 hours away, we seriously do NOT see each other enough. We headed down on Wednesday evening after Lance got off of work and stayed until Sunday morning. We had a BLAST while we were there.
Thanksgiving Day, we went to Slidell and spent the day with my sister-in-law’s family. Funny story-my sister-in-law’s sister, Jessica, was my best friend growing up. I can’t even begin to count how many nights I stayed at Jessi’s house, and Lauren (my sister-in-law) would hang out with us some! [But not too much because we were a few years younger and that would be uncool to actually like your little sister and her friends 😉 ]. When my brother and her sister started dating, it was a little weird for us at first, but we quickly realized how cool it would be, and that it was truly what God had in store for them. They married in 2008 and it’s really cool that our families have been close for so many years, and are now related! Anyways, back to Thanksgiving! We fried turkeys, played corn hole, laughed a LOT, played in leaves, ate WAY too much, and just had a great ole time!
Friday, Lance and I took our boys to Baton Rouge for a little Black Friday shopping. There were some very specific items on our Christmas list that we wanted to get and Baton Rouge was the closest place to make that happen! We literally shopped until the boys couldn’t stay awake any longer, and then headed back to New Orleans. We spent the evening relaxing.
Saturday, Elijah woke up sick, but was fine within an hour or so. When got our traditional beignets for breakfast, an absolute must if you go to New Orleans! Then it was off to the park for a hike and to let the dogs run wild for a while. They enjoyed swimming in the bayou and barking at random things! The hike just about wore all of us out, though, so it was back to the house for a nap! That evening, we went to Dat Dog NOLA, another must if you’re ever in the Big Easy. Lauren’s parents and sister joined us for this outing. What I didn’t know was that it was Mr. Tim and Mrs. Kelly’s first time to ever eat at Dat Dog! They LOVED it… I mean, who wouldn’t?! It’s simply AMAZING! We ended our Saturday with a little more shopping that night. When we got back to the house, Lance felt sick, and sure enough, whatever Elijah had must have made its way to Lance because he was up half the night not feeling well.
I woke up Sunday morning and got everything packed and loaded up for us to leave. We headed back to the good ole Miss Lou that morning, and were all very happy to walk through our front door! That evening, we turned on the Christmas music, got down the Christmas tree and decorations, and decorated our Christmas tree!
It was a very nice and refreshing Thanksgiving holiday, despite the sickness, but thankfully that was short-lived! With Baby #3 quickly approaching, I really don’t know when I’ll get to see my brother and his family again, but hopefully it won’t be TOO long! =)
Here’s a few pictures from our trip!
